Ukraine will not be able to achieve the 90-90-90 targets without a proper response to the alarming trend towards increase in the drug use among adolescents, which significantly raises the vulnerability of adolescents to HIV as well as agents causing viral hepatitis. That is why, for the first time in Ukraine, Alliance initiated one of the strategies in response to the epidemic – preventive interventions and provision of medical and social services to adolescents who use drugs.

During the campaign within the flash mob Put Red Ribbon On, the biggest red ribbons in Ukraine were spread out in the cities implementing the project. The campaign supported the main messages of the global UNAIDS campaign HANDS UP FOR HIV PREVENTION.

Key outcomes of the campaign:

  • 32,000 condoms distributed among young people and college students;
  • 353 people covered with HIV counseling and testing services in mobile clinics;
  • all participants received consultations of medical professionals on HIV prevention and diagnostics.

For the first time in Ukraine, almost 1,500 rapid HIV tests accompanied with informational leaflets were distributed during the campaign for self-testing!

In Sviatohirsk (Donetsk oblast) the campaign was conducted in cooperation with Health Right International.
