Ukrainian Internet goes charitable due to the fashion and safe sex

Today the first Ukrainian web-site, where anyone can buy stylish designed safe sex T-shorts and contribute to the projects aimed to help HIV-positive children, has launched. The huge collection of the provocative T-shirts from the short-list of the Naked Street Fashion contest conducted by Elena Franchuk ANTIAIDS Foundation and dedicated to the safe sex is represented at www.fashion-aid.in.ua. All proceeds will be directed to the projects to support HIV-positive people carried out by the ANTIAIDS Foundation. Being a part of the ANTIAIDS Foundation' big project Fashion AID, new web-site promotes the idea that "The best sex is a safe sex" and involves Ukrainian youth into the charity.

It is precedent for Ukrainian charitable organization to establish high-tech and innovative tool to influence the youth and to raise funds for charitable projects.

Ukrainian celebrities - Illia Chichkan, Masha Shubina and Svetlana Bevza - warmed up the audience by adding their artworks to the project. To support the initiative the famous faces of Ukrainian TV- Sergey Prytula, Alexandr Pedan and Olga Freymoot - took part in the photo session in the Fashion AID T-shirts. Also web-site won the authority of the cult magazine Elle that awarded the "Elle choice" status to some of T-shirts. Well-know Ukrainian designer X'u Marchenko became the creative curator of the project.

Accounts of the project have already opened in Facebook and VKontakte. Now all social networkers have very an easy way to be updated with the news, information about celebrities that support the project, interviews with the best Ukrainian designers and advices about plane ways to help HIV-positive people by buying fashionable and cool safe sex T-shirt.

Web-site of the Fashion AID project just started its life. In the nearest future it will be developing dynamically - contests "I'm in the Fashion AID T-shirt", "Create your own T-shirt and sell it on the Fashion AID web-site", creating of the virtual fitting rooms and groups for discussing the artworks, sharing the collections, created by the partners of the project, and stars' photo sessions are on the way.

History of the project

Naked Street Fashion graphic design contest is the fresh "wind" of the Fashion AID project. Several thousands of works of 617 participants from 11 countries were submitted to the contest. All works were devoted to the safe sex for the underwear and T-shirts. More than 600 works made to the short-list and many of them are presented on the Fashion AID web-site.

Fashion AID is a joint project of Elena Franchuk ANTIAIDS Foundation and Ukrainian Fashion Week which united the best Ukrainian designers to create social collections. Models and HIV-positive people, famous politicians, singers, Olympic champions, journalists and other celebrities stepped at the catwalk together to demonstrate their social position. All items from these collections were sold during three charitable auctions and raised record for Ukraine sum - 1 318 260 USD. These funds were directed to open 15 deposit accounts for HIV-positive adopted children, to improve living conditions of two families that adopted eight HIV-positive children, to arrangement of the playground in Kiev orphanage "Berezka", to summer vacation of HIV-positive orphans from Odessa, Poltava, and Kiev.

Part of the funds was directed for the reconstruction works of Lavra clinic that is the basis of research activities and treatment of the most difficult HIV/AIDS cases in Ukraine. Intensive therapy unit of the clinic was equipped with the latest equipment. Doctors got consumables necessary for equipment' functioning during the year and means of individual protection. But the most serious purchase was device necessary for HIV-positive people immunity status analysis (particularly CD-4 lymphocytes). And it is the first device in Ukraine which represent new generation of labware. Part of the sum was directed for the reconstruction of the Kiev maternity hospital where HIV-positive women stay. Also five mobile clinics were purchased and equipped to grant thousands of HIV-positive children with regular access to the qualified help of pediatricians and infectiologists in the most affected by the epidemic regions.
